Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, most of which were based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in the love of Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. A few beat a path to Colorado after hearing Denver's popular songs for his home state. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared that John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fames' first inductee, was honored with the award in the year 2011. Today he personifies the state for people worldwide. In all my travels I have met many individuals who do not hail from Colorado. People will say, "Oh John Denver!" whenever they learn that you come from Colorado. Brown said. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a brief time in folk-based bands was Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff had written the song in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver could hear the song's early versions and was aware that the song would be a top 10 hit. The song was recorded by the singer within a couple of days after performing it to an enthusiastic audience on the streets of Washington D.C.
